Rebates and Funding Options
We provide services through Medicare, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), WorkSafe, Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal (VOCAT) and major private health insurance providers
Third Party Payments
If your fees are being paid by a third party (NDIS, WorkSafe, VOCAT) you will be asked to provide details and verification of your funding before your first session. If your condition is currently under consideration for compensation, you are responsible for payments until such time as your claim is approved. In most cases, you will then be able to reclaim this amount from the body that is providing compensation.
Medicare and HICAPS
Rebates are available through Medicare if you are referred under the Better Access to Mental Health plan or the Enhanced Primary Care plan. Once you have reached your Medicare safety-net, you may then be eligible to claim 80% of the consultation fee. Please contact the Medicare Help Line on 132 150 for more information.
Clients wishing to utilize the Medicare rebate scheme must have a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) or Enhanced Primary Care Plan (EPCP) and be referred by a GP or psychiatrist. Alternatively, if you have private health insurance, you may be able to access a rebate through your fund. Please check with your private health insurer to confirm if any rebates are available to you. You are not able to claim both a Medicare rebate and a private health fund rebate for the same session.
An initial MHCP will entitle you to rebates for six sessions. If further sessions are required, you will need to return to your GP or psychiatrist to have the plan renewed. You can have up to 10 rebated sessions per calendar year.
To access your Medicare rebate, please bring your valid GP referral to your first psychology appointment.
GP chronic condition management plan
GP chronic condition management plans are intended for patients who would benefit from a structured approach to managing their chronic condition(s). The MBS items allow GPs and prescribes medical practitioners to work with their patients to set the goals for the patient’s treatment/management of their condition, roles and responsibilities, and a structured plan for their care. For more information on accessing a GP chronic condition management plan or accessing the plan, please speak to your GP or visit the MBS Online Website https://www.mbsonline.gov.au/
Why it matters for psychology services:
A GP Chronic Condition Management Plan helps coordinate your care if you are living with an ongoing health or mental health condition. It allows your GP to work together with your psychologist to support your treatment goals and plan your care.
It may also allow you to access Medicare rebates for psychology sessions if you are eligible.
